The incident
The colleagues decided to have some kind of gathering , so we booked a restaurant on the way and had dinner together. It was some twenty people in 2 buses, all sat on a big table very near the side of the road
It was the second round of beer, when we heard a big crash and saw to our dismay that another company bus was slowing down, revealing a motorbike lying on the road.
Fortunately it turned out to be a slight accident. The young man riding the motorbike had a shallow cut on his eyebrow, and his trousers were torn off. Apart from these he was safe and sound, except that he was breathing out alcohol smell himself. First aid was given immediately, and the man soon recovered from the shock.
A big crowd gathered immediately, and because there seems to be nothing to do with the ‘accident’ nobody knew what to do next. But this could attract the police to come at any minute, which would make the situation uneccessarily complicated. So I told the colleagues to get back to their beer, and the people in the business back to their business
This left 3 guys together with different thoughts: the bus driver was too nervous from the shock to say anything to the bike rider, and this man in turn felt that somebody at least must say something to him and mumured something about ‘you guys can not get away with that so easily’. And me, I found myself being involved in such a foolish situation as most witnesses would say I’ m the most relevant, save the bus driver.
At last this was solved when I asked the driver to give the man some money to ‘pay for his medical fees’ and stood with the man until his friends came and took him away. The situation turned out to be somehow rewarding: the girls in his friends’ group said they ‘would definitely call’ me next time they’re in the big city!
It was a hot summer afternoon…
